Throughout this human experience, we often need support when we feel lost, afraid, or stuck. I believe in every client's ability to connect with their inner wisdom, identify their strengths, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves.

I presented my research at Society for Social Work Research in Washington DC (2018), UMHCA Conference (2017),, Utah Valley University Suicide Prevention Conference (2017), and NATSAP National Association 2018.
I currently provide telehealth services for anyone residing in California or Utah. I believe the core self knows what we need in order to heal if we listen. I have experience with teens/adults who struggle with suicidality/self-injury, trauma, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, life-transitions, and spiritual/religious crises. We apply in-depth DBT, and also (importantly) what comes after DBT. I am trained in Mindfulness, DBT Foundations, EMDR, and Sand Tray work. I work well with spiritual orientations, behavioral approaches, narrative and strengths-based work. My doctoral research focused on self-injury.

I specialize in working with trans clients, especially teenagers. I am a trans man and am able to understand the nuances of gender identity that many cisgender therapists may miss. I typically approach therapy through the lenses of narrative therapy and attachment-based family therapy. My goal is to help clients feel a strong sense of self and connection.

With a collection of approaches and perspectives that are uniquely selected for the individual, one of the most fundamental aspects of therapy is a strong relationship between client and therapist. Since life is difficult and full of hardship, the moments we have to work together will be filled with compassion, sensitivity, authenticity, and courage. As we progress together, we will come to a realization: you already have it within you.

Life is a journey and along the way there are often circumstances that create great pain and trauma that often redirect us down the wrong path.If we try to ignore the pain it only gets worse & the cycle of dysfunction begins! I have learned that we all need help navigating though life's trials, and yet it takes a lot of inner strength to even ask! As a therapist my goal is to allow you to reach your greatest potential during this journey and gain the right tools to navigate through anything that comes in your path!

Working in community mental health and the broad scope of clients I have worked has taught me the most important skill that is needed in psychotherapy- connection! My greatest skill is the ability to build rapport, connection and ultimately a therapeutic relationship, which is the cornerstone of success in therapy. This happens through active listening, determining the problem's and diagnosis, then creating a personalized treatment plan with goals. My most successful clients are the ones who put in the work outside of the sessions to meet there prescribed goals. 'Nothing changes if nothing changes'.

Are you looking for a space that feels safe, authentic, and supportive? Does it seem as if you have done all that you can to find the answers? Managing life at any age can seem very difficult. The good news is that you don’t have to figure it out alone. I enjoy partnering with teens, young adults, and families as they make a life investment to overcome these challenges. One of the bravest things you can do is take ahold of your life journey.

I use a client-centered, feminist multicultural approach to work with trauma, OCD, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ issues, suicidal ideation, self-harm, grief, and substance use disorder.
My focus has been on the way trauma, lived experiences, social systems, and substance use often show up and weave together in us. We all have trauma, regardless of how we take up our space in the world. I love to show people their inner strength and foster self-compassion through harm-reduction and specialized trauma treatment techniques. I strive to confront the often-overwhelming stigma and shame so many of us have surrounding mental health issues, sexuality, gender expression, race, ethnicity, and spirituality. If you feel scared or stuck, I am ready to help navigate your unique process and path.

My belief is that patients are always the experts on themselves, and they may simply need a compassionate, neutral party to help them better know and understand what they want, think, and feel. A good therapist offers more support than advice and listens and pays attention to what is said and what is not said. Because people excel at doing what they are used to doing, change can be difficult. Having someone guide them along the way can increase one’s capacity for and likelihood of success.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
