Most people go through times in life of feeling emotional pain and wishing they could feel better. They may also want to have more control over their emotions, function at a higher level, and have more satisfying relationships. I work with people who are feeling this way, applying the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) model which entails teaching clients skills for managing painful emotions. DBT is effective for treating anxiety, depression, anger, relationship problems, trauma, and substance abuse. I offer individual therapy for adults and adolescents, and I co-facilitate DBT groups.
I also work with couples who fight or argue a lot and want to improve their relationships. I teach skills for taming strong negative emotions, expressing needs, and validating each other's feelings and needs. Rather than escalating into conflict, couples learn to manage problems through discussion and to find more support and closeness.
I have been intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), DBT for Substance Use Disorders, DBT and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for Trauma, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. Additional trainings have focused on Grief Counseling, Counseling Adolescents, and Couples Counseling.

This group is for adults struggling with one or more issues such as depression, mood swings, anxiety, addictions, trauma, anger, or high conflict relationships. Participants develop skills in mindfulness and learn how to tame intense painful emotions, tolerate distress, and be more effective in their relationships. While DBT was originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder, it has been shown to be effective with many other problems. The groups are run by two intensively-trained DBT therapists and generally have 4 to 8 participants.

This group is for families with an adolescent who is struggling with one or more issues such as a mood disorder, anxiety, anger, substance abuse, and high conflict relationships. Participants in the group learn new skills to regulate their emotions and create better lives for themselves. Parents participate too so they can support their adolescent's new skill use. The group is facilitated by two intensively-trained DBT therapists and generally has 3 or 4 families attending.
