Emotions are normal! The difference between feeling anxious or depressed lies in our interpretation of these emotions. I work with children, adolescents and adults for individual or couples counseling. I enjoy working with young people by helping them to understand emotions and what they mean. There are several therapeutic modalities I use including art therapy as a way to connect feelings to behaviors and sports metaphors for visualizing change. Through this process my clients increase self-control and self-esteem. My goal is to reveal the strengths individuals posses even if the current life situation may feel overwhelming.
My approach with clients is Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. So what does that mean exactly? Simply put, our thoughts influence the emotions we experience on a daily basis. These thoughts reflect individual beliefs we have about relationships, society, family, love, career and overall self-image. This process influences and drives our behaviors.
In this modern world, children grow up in a culture that is foreign to most adults. My interventions help to create and develop effective communication techniques so that this cultural divide is lessened between parent and child. I can teach you how. You and your child will be better for it.
